
On behalf of Defending Democracy, Oxford, Ohio, At-large officers Margarettte Beckwith and Marilyn Elzey presented Don

with an award called Profiles in Courage and Commitment. The award recognizes Don’s decades-long support of Democrats, liberals, and progressives, and includes this language: “In recognition of his unwavering support, encouragement, creative ideas and dedication to progressive causes.” Don received a standing ovation.

The Featured speaker: Rep. Kathleen Clyde, Democratic candidate for Ohio Secretary of State, introduced by Margarette Beckwith. Clyde, four times elected to the Ohio House from Portage County, impressed all of us with her understanding of Ohio election laws and with her determination to undo Republican restrictions on voters’ rights.

Don recognized Jocelyn Bucaro, Chair of the Butler County Democratic Party who, after eight years as Chair, will not stand for re-election. The two candidates for the next Chair of the party were in attendance: Brian Hester and Ronnie Wardrup.
