Brunner is running for U.S. Senate in 2010. Her Democratic primary opponent will be Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher. During the address Brunner talked about some of her progressive positions. She supports a strong public option for health care, ending the war in Afghanistan, same-sex marriage, caps on credit card interest, and environmental controls. She ended with a good question and answer period.

Before Brunner was elected Ohio Secretary of State Nov. 2006, she was elected to two terms as Franklin County Judge Of Court Of Common Pleas. She took over Secretary of State from Ken Blackwell that was froth with problems including the infamous 2004 Ohio presidential election. Brunner put several major new policies in place to make sure no Ohioan would be disenfranchised. In 2008, she earned a Profiles in Courage Award for her reform of the Ohio voting systems. You can visit her web site. You can read more about her on Wikipedia here.

Brunner’s appearance was sponsored by the Butler County Progressive Political Action Committee and the Miami University College Democrats. It was co-sponsored by the Change Butler PAC, the Butler County Democratic Party, and the Hamilton-Fairfield Democratic Alliance.

Jennifer Brunner, Ohio Secretary of State, will be presenting a major address in Oxford at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26 at the Community Room (second floor) of the LCNB Bank Building, 30 Park Place West, in uptown Oxford.

Brunner is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican George Voinovich. Ohio Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, also a candidate for the U.S. Senate, spoke in Oxford last May.

Brunner graduated cum laude from Miami University as a sociology-gerontology major. She earned her J.D. with honors from Capital University in Columbus. She served for five years as a Judge of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Brunner was elected Secretary of State of Ohio in 2006. In 2008 she earned a Profiles in Courage Award for her reform of Ohio voting systems.

“I look forward to returning to Butler County, the home of my Alma Mater, Miami University,” Brunner said. “Miami provided me with a first-class college education with experiences from working on an interdisciplinary study funded by the National Science Foundation to being a student caseworker for Mt. Auburn Family Services in Cincinnati with clients of my own.”

Brunner’s appearance is sponsored by the Butler County Progressive Political Action Committee and the Miami University College Democrats. It is co-sponsored by the Change Butler PAC, the Butler County Democratic Party, and the Hamilton-Fairfield Democratic Alliance.

Last night our PAC had the privilege of hosting an address by David Pepper at our general meeting. David Pepper is Hamilton County commission president and candidate, Ohio State Auditor. David explained why the auditor’s office may be the most important state office for the year 2010. The state auditor is one of five members of the Ohio Apportionment Board. The auditor may well be the third Democrat on the apportionment board. “In 2011 the state will redraw, i.e., redistrict, political boundaries for U.S. Congressional Districts, and Ohio House and Senate state legislative districts. The Republicans in 1990 and again in 2000 made sure that political districts were unfairly drawn to a Republican advantage. David would rather see political districts divided up so that no political party would have an advantage based on how districts are divided up. There’s a concept that has been lost on the GOP.

Please look at his web site and think about getting involved in this important race www.davidpepper.com
