HAMILTON — Nine days before the application deadline for an office executive director, Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds hired the former president of a company he used to work for.
Jim Oswald, former president of Summit Solutions Inc., was hired Sept. 30 for a salary of $99,499, according to county records. [More from Oxford Press.]

Pointing to the hundreds of billions of government dollars that have been spent to keep banks from failing on The Daily Show, Joe Biden recalled a “great expression” of his grandfather, Ambrose Finnegan: “It’s socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.”

A national survey released this week by the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) indicates that Americans have cut back on the time they spend volunteering, participating in groups, and other civic activities during the economic downturn of the past year. NCoC’s studies generally have found negative economic indicators to be associated with increased civic engagement with two exceptions – the recession of the early 1980s and the current recession. This research has a connection to two of our own: BCP-PAC Executive Board Members Kathleen Knight Abowitz and Clyde Brown. In addition to national studies of civic engagement, in 2008 and 2009 NCoC partnered with researchers in the field to produce a small number of state civic health studies. Kathleen and Clyde, with three others, coauthored the “2008 Ohio Civic Health Index: Beyond the Vote in a Battleground State” and are currently writing, with two others, the “2009 Ohio Civic Health Report: Civic Engagement in Hard Economic Times,” which will be released in early November.

If you have a family member, friend or loved one who watches Fox News as their main source of news, please disconnect the cable, unhook the satellite dish, do what ever you can to get them to stop watching that network. MSNBC and the Wall Street Journal released a poll showing how misinformed Fox News viewers are. Read the article here.
Today in the Journal News there is an article about the call for a state investigation of county practices. Members of our PAC and our sister PAC have asked for this investigation. Bill Gracie (our V.P.), Donna Mollaun (our Treasurer) and Jocelyn Bucaro (President of Change Butler PAC) made the request to the Ohio Attorney General. You can read the entire article here. One last thought; these groups (BCP-PAC, the Hamilton-Fairfield Democratic Alliance, and Change Butler PAC) that Bill, Donna, and Jocelyn are members of, didn’t exist until after President Obama was elected. Change can come in many forms.
