Congratulations to the many, many progressives who created the amazingly successful Pro Health Care Reform Press Conference at the West Chester Library last Saturday (Sept. 5). It was a standing-room only event–with about 150 enthusiastic supporters filling the seats and lining the walls of the library. There were television crews from three Cincinnati stations as well as reporters from local papers. The Butler County Progressive PAC co-sponsored this event, but the real movers and shakers were the wonderful people from our sister PAC–Change Butler PAC–especially President Jocelyn Bucaro and Secretary Kathy Wyenandt, who served as Conference MC. Nice going, Jocelyn and Kathy!! Our own Donna Mollaun supervised the making of signs and helped in other ways as well. I saw lots of good Oxford folk there–including Jeff and Linda Kimball, Bill Gracie and Dan Fairbanks, Kathleen Knight Abowitz, Marilyn Elzey, Steve and Karen Delue, Bill Houk, Shelley Stearns, Margaret Beckwith, Terri Spahr Nelson, Clyde and Gayle Brown, and Pete and Kathleen Carels. Each of the six speakers–a nurse, physician, businessperson, therapist, parent, and spouse–spoke eloquently and convincingly about the shortcomings of the current health care system. We will all be listening attentively and hopefully when President Obama addresses Congress and the nation tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m.
